Zelensky: we understand that we will not be NATO members while hostilities are going on
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, during a joint press conference with his Estonian counterpart Alar Karis, admitted that the country would not be able to become a NATO member during hostilities on the territory of the state.
“We understand that we will not be members of NATO while this war is going on. Not because we don’t want to, but because it’s impossible,” the head of the Ukrainian state said.
Zelensky emphasized that membership in the North Atlantic Alliance would be the best security guarantee for Ukraine, but stressed that he did not want to drag the Western bloc into a military conflict.
At the same time, the Ukrainian president noted that before joining NATO, Ukraine would like to receive security guarantees.
