Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has proposed imposing sanctions against Iran for 50 years. This follows from the draft resolution submitted to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
“Apply sectoral special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) against the Islamic Republic of Iran for a period of 50 years,” the statement said.
At the end of April, the Ukrainian government submitted to the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) a proposal to impose sanctions against Iran. Then the Cabinet of Ministers proposed to impose sanctions against the republic for 50 years, in particular, which provide for blocking the capital of Iranian residents on the territory of Ukraine, prohibiting the transfer of technology, intellectual property rights to Iranian residents, etc.
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Yulia Sviridenko explained that the reason for the imposition of sanctions is the assistance allegedly provided by Tehran to Moscow.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani Chafi said earlier that Zelensky’s statements are “anti-Iranian propaganda and part of the information war.” “This is aimed at attracting even more weapons and financial assistance from Western countries,” he said (quoted by ISNA).
In December 2022 Kanaani declaredthat Iran considers threats from Ukraine as irresponsible rhetoric. According to him, Baghdad considers “threatening rhetoric” irresponsible, no matter what body it comes from, and holds the Ukrainian government responsible for the legal and political consequences of such statements.
March 18 Zelensky introduced sanctions against four airlines from Iran – cargo Fars Air Qeshm and Pouya Air, Mahan Airlines and Saha Airlines. Sanctions against Iranian companies will be in effect for five years.
