Zelensky appointed ex-coach of the Ukrainian national football team Shevchenko as an adviser

President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky signed a decree according to which former head coach of the national football team Andrei Shevchenko was appointed his new freelance adviser.
Shevchenko as a football player played for Dynamo Kiev, Milan and Chelsea. He played as a member of the national team at the 2006 World Cup and Euro 2012. He joined the coaching staff of the Ukrainian national team in 2016. In 2018, the team led by Shevchenko failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, but qualified for the 2020 European Championship and reached the quarterfinals. In 2021, Shevchenko left his coaching post. In 2021, Shevchenko became the head coach of the Italian club Genoa, but was fired a few months later due to the team’s unsatisfactory results. At the beginning of 2022, the appointment to the position of head coach of the Polish national team was discussed, but the signing of the contract did not take place.
Since 2018, Shevchenko has been vice-president of the Ukrainian Olympic Committee.
