Zelensky announced the confiscation of Russian assets for $ 765 million

The Ukrainian authorities seized Russian assets worth 28 billion hryvnias ($765 million). This was stated by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky video message.
“Today I held a meeting on the sanctions policy, the confiscation of Russian assets. As officials reported, assets worth UAH 28 billion have already been forcibly seized in Ukraine. This work is ongoing. More than 900 objects belonging specifically to the Russian state have been proposed to be confiscated,” Zelensky said.
According to him, if we evaluate the package of property also of residents of the Russian Federation, then we are talking about 36,000 positions for withdrawal. The Ukrainian president noted that the funds received in this way will be used to compensate for “the damage caused by Russia.”
August 5 government of Ukraine approved Zelensky’s decree on the seizure of 903 Russian assets in favor of the state. In addition to assets belonging to the Russian state, Kyiv plans to confiscate assets belonging to sanctioned citizens and companies from Russia, as well as assets of Russian banks. In addition, Ukraine intends to seek the confiscation of Russian assets abroad.
On March 10, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law on the forced seizure of property of the Russian Federation and its residents. In accordance with the provisions of the law, the compulsory seizure of objects of Russian property will be carried out without any compensation for its value. In early April, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law extending the confiscation of property also to all those who support the conduct of a special operation on the territory of Ukraine, including its citizens. The total amount of the assets of Russia and its citizens arrested in Ukraine reached 33 billion rubles in July.
