Greece joined the G7 declaration of support for Ukraine, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said.

According to him, it became the 14th country that supported security guarantees for Kyiv. “I thank Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis for his dedication to the Ukrainian-Greek partnership. We are working together on Ukraine’s path to NATO,” the head of state wrote on his Telegram channel.

On August 3, the head of the office of the Ukrainian president, Andriy Yermak, announced the start of negotiations with the United States on a bilateral agreement on the provision of security guarantees, which Kiev agreed on in Vilnius with the countries that signed the declaration following the NATO summit. Later, the US State Department confirmed that negotiations had begun. The main thing for the United States will be to provide Ukraine with “forces capable of defending it now <...> and in the future”, as well as support, “improving the efficiency and transparency of military institutions”.

On August 8, Yermak announced that consultations on security guarantees would begin during this month and next. He admitted that the first agreements may appear this year. On the same day, Peter Stano, a spokesman for the European Union’s foreign service, said that the EU can not provide Ukraine with security guarantees. He explained this by saying that the bloc is not a military organization, but “the question should be addressed to NATO and specific countries.”

Kremlin named guarantees for Kyiv, which were presented by the G7 countries, an encroachment on the security of Russia.
