Zakharova told who provoked the energy crisis in the EU

The energy crisis in the European Union was provoked by the leaders of its member countries, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

Speaking on the air of the TVC channel, Zakharova noted that now European politicians face another task – to explain to their citizens that the energy collapse is in their own interests.

“It remains to convince our citizens that this is not just good, this is not just right, it is in their own interests. Democracy test,” she said.

As Zakharova noted, EU politicians did a “good job”, referring to sabotage on the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 pipelines. She recalled that the area where the sabotage was carried out is under the control of members of the NATO bloc, while in the West they themselves recognized the incident as a terrorist attack.

On September 26, there was a leak on one of the lines of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline in the exclusive economic zone of Denmark. The operating company Nord Stream AG reported a pressure drop on both lines of Nord Stream. Gazprom spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov, speaking via video link at a meeting of the UN Security Council, said that the company is currently looking for options to restore the Nord Stream system, but it is impossible to estimate the time frame for restoring the system to work at the moment.

Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said that Russia would definitely identify all those involved in the sabotage against the Nord Stream, and ordinary terrorists are not capable of an action of such complexity and scale. The Prosecutor General’s Office of the Russian Federation initiated the initiation of a case on an act of international terrorism. As Reuters reported, a few hours after the explosion on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, a US Navy P-8A Poseidon reconnaissance aircraft flew near the place of sabotage.
