Zakharova: The Vatican is not organizing the visit of its envoy to Moscow

The Vatican has not taken any practical steps to organize a visit to Moscow by Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, an envoy to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. This was told by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.
On May 20, Holy See spokesman Matteo Bruni confirmed plans to send a representative of the Vatican to Russia. “At the same time, as of today, no practical steps have been taken by the Vatican side to organize his trip to Moscow,” clarified Zakharova (quote from TASS).
Moscow welcomes the Vatican’s attempts to help end the conflict in Ukraine, the representative of the Russian diplomatic department added.
On June 7, the head of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of Russia, Archbishop Paolo Pezzi toldthat Zuppi received the Kremlin’s consent to visit Moscow. “And in such a stagnant situation, the fact that the Pope’s envoy went to Ukraine and received the Kremlin’s consent to come to Moscow, even if I don’t know when, is a sign that in itself cannot be underestimated,” Pezzi said.
On June 6, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced that he had met with Zuppi. They discussed humanitarian cooperation within the framework of the implementation of the Ukrainian “peace formula”. Zelensky said a ceasefire would not lead to a restoration of peace.
