The diplomat said that the incident occurred at the exit of the building where the event organized by the Cambodian side was held. According to Zakharova, at that moment, “a lady literally broke through to the Russian minister.”
“What I saw yesterday, I have never seen. She, I don’t know, a person who pretended to be a journalist, turned on the phone with a video recording, without asking anything, not a single question, ”said Zakharova.
According to her, the woman tried to touch the phone to the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry. When the “journalist” was asked which publication she represented, the woman hid her badge and tried to escape. Zakharova stressed that it was “clearly a provocative story.”
Lavrov arrived in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, on November 12. The next day, he attended the East Asia Summit. Already on November 13, the Russian minister went to the G20 summit, which is being held in Bali on November 15-16. This year, Lavrov led the Russian delegation to the event.
On November 14, a number of Western media published information about the minister’s hospitalization, but these reports refuted Zakharov. She called publications in the media “the aerobatics of fakes.” Zakharova also posted a video showing Lavrov busy preparing for the summit.
Yesterday diplomat completed his participation in the summit and left Bali. On the sidelines of the summit, Lavrov held several meetings, including with his Chinese and Turkish counterparts Wang Yi and Mevlut Cavusoglu. The Russian minister also spoke with UN Secretary General António Guterres, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
