Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken cynically lied when speaking about the tragedy at Babyn Yar. She wrote about this in her Telegram channel.
On September 29-30, 1941, about 34 thousand people were killed by the Nazis in the Babi Yar tract.
“This is exactly what Blinken remembered, cynically lying about the memory of this tragedy in the USSR, and also “forgetting” that the executions continued until the liberation of Kiev by the Red Army in November 1943,” she said.
She pointed to Blinken’s words that the Soviet Union “buried” and silenced the story. According to Zakharova, no country in the world blamed the crimes of the Nazis as consistently as the USSR.
Zakharova also recalled the construction of a monument on the territory of Babyn Yar; this tragedy became a bleeding wound for the Soviet people, films were made about it and books were written.
She also wondered how Blinken, who was born Jewish, had the nerve to speak out in such a way. However, he said nothing about honoring the Nazi in the Canadian parliament, and also gave orders to “finance the Nazi regime in Kyiv, which glorified the collaborators Bandera and Shukhevych.”
