Zakharova proposed to recognize the European Parliament as a “sponsor of idiocy”

The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, commenting on the adoption by the European Parliament of a resolution recognizing Russia as a “state sponsor of terrorism”, suggested recognize the EU legislature as a “sponsor of idiocy”.

“The European Parliament adopted a resolution recognizing Russia as a “sponsor of terrorism”. I propose to recognize the European Parliament as a sponsor of idiocy,” she wrote in her Telegram channel.

A resolution that has no legal force and is advisory in nature, supported 494 MEPs, 58 voted against, 44 abstained. Russia in the document is accused of “delivering strikes on Ukraine in violation of international law.”

Earlier in August, Russia was recognized as a “sponsor of terrorism” by the Latvian Seimas. Zakharova then stated that “naming ideologists [этого предложения] need none other than neo-Nazis.” A similar decision was also made by the Estonian Parliament in October. Then the parliamentarians condemned the special operation in Ukraine, as well as referendums in the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye.

In July, a similar resolution accepted the US Senate, but the US State Department, which lists countries as “sponsors of terrorism”, opposed such a move against Russia. The State Department believes that adding Russia to this list will lead to problems in the American and global economy. Compared with Cuba, Syria, Iran and North Korea, which the United States has recognized as “sponsors of terrorism”, Russia is much more integrated into the world economy, the department believes, in addition, the country does not meet the necessary criteria for inclusion in this list.
