The blocking of the bank accounts of the German Goethe Institute in Russia is a proportionate response to the blocking by the German authorities of the bank accounts of the Russian House of Science and Culture in Berlin (RDNK), should from the answer of the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.
“The introduction of the aforementioned restrictive measures against the branches of the Goethe Institute in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk is a proportionate response to the blocking by the German authorities in December 2022 of the bank accounts of the Russian House of Science and Culture in Berlin (RDNK),” Zakharova replied.
According to the diplomat, Russia has repeatedly warned over the course of several months about the inevitability of this step if the German authorities do not stop exerting “administrative and political pressure on the RDNK in violation of the agreement between the government of the Russian Federation and the government of the Federal Republic of Germany on the activities of cultural and information centers from 4 February 2011″
As Zakharova noted, “our unequivocal warnings” were ignored in Berlin.
“Under the current conditions, the bank accounts of the Goethe Institute in Russia could be unblocked only after the complete and unconditional “unfreezing” of the bank accounts of the RDNK,” the diplomat stressed.
Germany froze the accounts of the Russian House of Science and Art in Berlin last December. On April 1 this year, it became known that the bank accounts of the Russian Center for Science and Culture (RCSC) were frozen in Finland due to EU sanctions against Russia.
