Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova reportedthat the new UN proposals to extend the grain deal, which were reported in Turkey, were already implied earlier, but were never implemented.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said earlier that the UN has prepared a new package of proposals with the participation of Turkey to resume the grain deal, transmitted Anadolu. Its most important elements were the inclusion of a European subsidiary Rosselkhozbankand into the SWIFT system and unblocking the frozen assets of Russian fertilizer companies in Europe.

“Previously, all this was also “implied”, it just didn’t work,” Zakharova commented on this in her Telegram channel.

On Monday, September 4, Sochi will host a meeting between the Presidents of Russia and Turkey, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, where they will discuss, among other things, the settlement of the situation in Ukraine and the extension of the grain deal.

Russia suspended participation in the grain deal on 17 July. Moscow justified this decision by the lack of progress in the implementation of the Russian part of the deal, which involves reconnecting Rosselkhozbank to the SWIFT payment system and resuming the operation of the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline.

The grain deal was concluded on July 22, 2022 by representatives of Turkey and the UN, on the one hand, and representatives of Russia and Ukraine, on the other. As part of the negotiations, two agreements were signed between Moscow and Kiev. The first is for the export of Ukrainian grain from three ports, including Odessa, Yuzhny and Chornomorsk, the second is for assistance in the export of Russian grain and fertilizers. The second part of the deal remained unfulfilled.
