Zakharova doubted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine would keep records of the use of cluster munitions

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova doubted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine will adhere to the five principles of the use of cluster munitions, voiced by the Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov.

Zakharova drew attention to two principles, according to which, Kyiv intends to keep records of the use of these weapons and the places where they will be used, as well as to inform their partners about their use and effectiveness.

“To whom is he telling this? Accounting and reporting is not about Ukraine under the current Kiev regime,” she wrote in her Telegram channel.

Other principles voiced by Reznikov assume that the Armed Forces of Ukraine will not use these shells on the “officially recognized territory” of the Russian Federation and urban areas, and the locations where they will be used will be cleared of mines after the end of the conflict in the first place.

On July 7, the Pentagon announced a new $800 million military aid package for Ukraine that would include 155mm artillery shells, including cluster munitions. The US defense department believes that civilian claims related to the use of cluster munitions by the Ukrainian army do not exceed concerns about Russia’s victory in the conflict in Ukraine.

At the same time, the White House previously acknowledged that the use of cluster munitions poses a threat to the lives of civilians. That is why Washington postponed the decision to transfer such weapons to Kyiv, the US presidential administration added. They called the supply of cluster munitions a temporary measure, explaining that such a step is needed to increase the production of artillery shells in the United States.
