Russian diplomat Maria Zakharova said the US-announced Welcome Corps program points to “very revealing American hypocrisy” regarding refugees.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry drew attention to the fact that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on January 19 announced the launch of an initiative that, according to Zakharova, is aimed at “removing the obligation to support refugees from the US state budget”, transferring this burden “to private households” . And in this, in her opinion, “you see a striking, but very revealing American hypocrisy.”
Zakharova explained: “At first, Washington did everything to make hundreds of thousands of people become refugees” in Libya, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, “and now also in Ukraine.”
The United States, according to her, dragged the listed countries into bloody internal internecine wars “with their weapons, advice, and in some places even the force of the military contingent.”
And after “the unfortunate inhabitants of these states left their homes,” Washington “did not find anything better than to offer its own citizens to pay for the stay of refugees in the States.”
As the diplomat noted, shifting the financial obligations of the state into the hands of citizens is the lot of countries that are not able to ensure the normal functioning of the state apparatus, satisfaction of social needs and humanitarian administration.
