Zakharova called the UN’s response to the events in Makhachkala “fantastic hypocrisy”

The UN’s response to the riots in Makhachkala is characterized by “astonishing selectivity” in its assessments and is “fantastic hypocrisy.” About it stated official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova in her Telegram channel.

“After the current words of the UN official, we demand a reaction to everything that the UN Secretariat was regularly informed about!” – she wrote.

Zakharova noted that in the situation with the death of UN employees in the Gaza Strip and the shelling of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, the official representative of the UN Secretary General, Stephane Dujarric, “did not know who to condemn and what words to choose.” At the same time, the diplomat continued, this was in his area of ​​responsibility.

Commenting on Dujarric’s words about “hunting people” because of religion, Zakharova expressed hope that the UN “will find the courage” to condemn Kiev’s persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. She noted that previously neither UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres nor his official representative spoke out in defense of Orthodox believers in Ukraine, who were under pressure, despite numerous materials on this topic presented by the Russian Permanent Mission to the UN.

On October 30, Dujarric said that the UN condemns those who staged riots at Makhachkala airport. “We certainly condemn the actions and statements of the people who tried to storm the airport and tried to hunt people solely because of their religion. We condemn these acts of anti-Semitism,” he said (quote according to TASS).

On October 29, a crowd of activists burst into Makhachkala airport as a flight from Israel arrived. The Investigative Committee for Dagestan opened a criminal case under Art. 212 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (mass riots). According to the latest data, detained 83 protest participants. Airport operations were suspended until midday on October 30.

The head of Dagestan, Sergei Melikov, said that the unrest was preceded by calls disseminated by pro-Ukrainian Telegram channels. He noted that the regional authorities have reliable data that the Morning Dagestan channel was broadcast from Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasizedthat the events in Makhachkala were inspired from abroad, including with the participation of the Ukrainian special services and their Western patrons.
