Zakharova called hypocritical calls for peace following the EU-Ukraine summit

The European Union’s calls for peace following the summit are hypocritical, since at the meeting the EU countries declared their readiness to invest in the continuation of hostilities “for as long as it takes,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on the February 3 summit in Kyiv. Her statement published on the website of the ministry.

“No less hypocritical are the EU calls for peace in conditions where they declare their readiness to invest in the continuation of hostilities “for as long as it takes.” Already allocated 12 billion euros at the expense of European taxpayers. Increasing funding for the conflict, new deliveries of weapons and equipment, increasing training camps, expanding training programs for the Armed Forces of Ukraine – all this leads to an increase in the number of victims of the conflict, including among the civilian population,” Zakharova emphasized.

According to her, the past event “once again confirmed that for the sake of weakening Russia and serving the hegemonic aspirations of the United States and NATO, the European Union continues to recklessly support” the Kyiv regime. Zakharova noted that the EU countries, supporting Kyiv, “solidize” with the state, which suppresses dissent, freedom of speech and expression, and violates linguistic and confessional rights.

“At the same time, he cynically “reaffirms” in a joint statement following the results of the summit “commitment to full respect for the rights of persons belonging to minorities.” This completely crosses out the principles on which the EU was once built,” Zakharova believes.

The official also stressed that the European Union has invested “all political, financial and military means” to open a front in Ukraine against the multipolar world, “which Russia and the majority of the world community strongly support.” Zakharova added that all participants in the summit will have to answer, including to their own population, for the “bloody geopolitical game” to the last Ukrainian.

On February 3, the EU-Ukraine summit took place in Kyiv. As the press service of the European Commission reported, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, as well as five vice-presidents of the commission and nine European commissioners arrived in the Ukrainian capital to hold it.
