Zakharova: Budanov’s words about attacks on Zaporizhia NPP should become a “cold shower” for the UN

The confession of the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kirill Budanov, about attempts to seize the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant confirms Moscow’s statements about the shelling of the plant; his words should become a “cold shower” for the UN. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

“Budanov’s recognition should be a cold shower for the UN, whose representatives have been saying all these months that they “could not determine the direction of the attack on the station.” Budanov’s confession should bring the population of NATO countries out of their hypnotic sleep, to whom the NATO regimes were indoctrinated that Russia was creating threats to nuclear facilities and threatening to use nuclear weapons,” wrote she is on her Telegram channel.

Previously, Moscow has repeatedly pointed out Kiev’s use of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant as a “dirty nuclear weapon” and to blackmail Europe, Zakharova noted. She emphasized that Russia provided data on shelling of the station from Ukraine at all specialized sites. In conclusion, Zakharova emphasized that everything that Moscow stated “will continue to be directly confirmed.”

In an interview with the Ukrainian publication NV, Budanov said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces made three attempts to attack and seize the Zaporizhia NPP. According to him, in August 2022, GUR special forces crossed the Kakhovskoe reservoir in the Energodar area in high-speed boats to capture the station. After this, the Ukrainian military tried two more times to land on the left bank of the Dnieper with the aim of capturing the Zaporizhia NPP. All attacks were repulsed by the Russian army.

Zaporozhye NPP is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. Russia has controlled the plant since the end of February 2022. Russian authorities regularly report shelling of the Zaporizhia NPP and the city of Energodar from Ukraine.

In August, Advisor to the General Director of Rosenergoatom Concern Renat Karchaa statedthat the station remains a target for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which daily make at least 10 attempts to attack the facility with drones. According to him, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are also trying to identify vulnerabilities in the defense of the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant using shelling. At the same time, the power units themselves are reliably protected, and a reliable protection system has been created around the station’s vulnerable areas, he emphasized.
