Zakharova blasted Germany’s hypocritical position on genocide in the Gaza Strip

The German government has decided to appear at the International Court of Justice as a third party in the proceedings between South Africa and Israel, accused of genocide of the Arab population of the Gaza Strip. Berlin’s actions were sharply commented on by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, in comments to the press.

The decision of the German government to oppose South Africa, which filed a lawsuit with the International Court of Justice accusing Israel of genocide of the population of the Gaza Strip, “did not surprise us,” notes Maria Zakharova: “This occurs against the backdrop of the unconditional support that Berlin always provides to Israel without regard to its consequences . This line of the German authorities has long and firmly occupied an important place among the unspoken dogmas of the “rules-based order” determined by Washington.”

In this case, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized, the German political elites “did Israel a disservice”: “Berlin refers to “taking into account the history of Germany and the crime against humanity in the form of the Holocaust,” thereby declaring itself as an “expert” in matters of mass destruction of people”.

“What about the crimes against humanity committed by Germany against other peoples, nationalities and nationalities during the Second World War?” – asks Maria Zakharova, noting that in Germany, apparently, they again forgot that, according to UN General Assembly Resolution A/RES/60/7 and a number of other international documents, the Holocaust is the persecution and mass extermination of representatives of various ethnic groups by the Nazis and social groups. And the OSCE Berlin Declaration reinforced the need to recognize the importance of respectful treatment of all ethnic and religious groups without segregation.

“History knows many examples when criminals who committed serious offenses took the path of correction, using their knowledge of illegal experience, they helped prevent similar atrocities,” continues Zakharova. “But this was always possible only in the presence of active repentance and unconditional recognition of one’s own guilt without the slightest hint of attempts to justify one’s own crimes, much less repeat them.”

According to Maria Zakharova, Germany has taken a different path of interaction with its past: “Again, like 80 years ago, in the actions of official Berlin there is a division of people along national lines, taken to a new, more sophisticated level.”

As one example, a representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry mentions Berlin’s stubborn refusal “to pay compensation to the Leningrad siege survivors of non-Jewish nationality, considering that Russians, Belarusians, Ukrainians, representatives of the Finno-Ugric peoples, Armenians, Georgians, Moldovans and many others do not have the right to receive funds from German government.” At the same time, Zakharova emphasizes, it is the tragedy of Leningrad, which was under a terrible siege for more than 800 days, the 80th anniversary of the lifting of which will be celebrated on January 27, along with the decisions of the Wannsee Conference and the creation of a system of “death camps” in Europe that serves as important proof of the inhumane intentions of Nazi Germany and her allies.

In addition, Maria Zakharova notes, the German authorities have taken a course towards undermining Russian efforts to prevent the rehabilitation of Nazism. Germany has previously systematically abstained from meetings of the UN General Assembly during the voting on the adoption of a resolution proposed by Russia on combating the glorification of Nazism, neo-Nazism and other practices that contribute to the escalation of modern forms of racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related intolerance, and from 2022 year generally opposes, thereby challenging the proposals contained in the text of the document to stop the renewed glorification of the Nazi movement and the whitewashing of former members of the SS organization, including the Waffen-SS units recognized as criminal by the Nuremberg Tribunal.

Also, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry recalls, Germany is more active than others in the European Union “in defense of the Kyiv regime, which has proclaimed the glorification of fascist collaborators as a key component of its domestic and foreign policy.”

“Recently, statements by representatives of the German leadership have become more frequent, calling into question Berlin’s condemnation of its Nazi past,” states Zakharova, citing examples of statements by Bundeschancellor Scholz that Germany and the Kiev regime “are on the right side of history” (which, according to Maria Zakharova, he “actually justified the current misanthropic Russophobic regime of Zelensky, which has reincarnated collaborators of Nazi Germany and is trying to erase the memory of fighters against fascism”), or the “proud” statements of German Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock about the death of her ancestors “during the defense of Königsberg.” “This is now the understanding of the “right side” of history among the ruling elite of Germany,” concludes the representative of Russian diplomacy.

In addition, Zakharova continues, Berlin continues to refuse to recognize the crimes of National Socialism against the peoples of our country as genocide – and this despite the fact that Russian investigative authorities and courts have accumulated a huge amount of evidence indicating war crimes, crimes against humanity and acts of genocide committed by troops The Third Reich on the territory of various regions of our country.

Returning to the problem of the current proceedings in the International Court of Justice on the events in the Gaza Strip, Maria Zakharova notes that “Berlin decided to highlight from everything that constitutes its historical guilt before humanity, only one part of it – the issue of the Holocaust, and even then it is far from being considered completely, but only from the angle that is beneficial to him at this particular moment.”

“The question arises: was this German repentance sincere earlier, and did the denazification of Germany achieve its goals? – said Zakharova. – We consider the behavior of the leadership of the current German administration unacceptable, immoral, illegal and immoral. However, what remains most alarming is the ongoing resurgence of German militarism against the background of the approval of neo-Nazi practices.”
