The explanation that the greeting of the Ukrainian nationalists was uttered “in jest” will not work. Everyone who uses such slogans is in support of Nazism and fascism. This statement was made by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, commenting on the discussion that had arisen about Ukrainian slogans.
“The other day, the discussion about the use of “glory” and “heroes” revived again. <...> The excuses of today’s slogans that this is “as if in jest” will not work. Every time someone uses these passcodes, they salute exactly Nazism and fascism, ”- wrote She is in her Telegram channel.
Zakharova stated that people who say this greeting do so “out of their illiteracy or immorality.” She also recalled the history of the emergence of the nationalist chant and concluded that “this is how collaborators saluted the Wehrmacht and SS units.”
Earlier, a video appeared on the network in which Russian singer Valery Meladze, while at a concert in Dubai, allegedly says “glory to the heroes”, responding to the Ukrainian nationalist chants of one of the fans.
On the eve of January 2, the State Duma and the Federation Council called for action against the singer. So, the head of the party “Fair Russia – For the Truth” Sergei Mironov declaredthat Meladze should be stripped of all titles for speaking about Ukraine. Later member of the Federation Council Elena Afanasyeva suggested to deprive the artist not of titles, but of Russian citizenship.
On January 3, Meladze wrote on his Telegram channel that he “cannot and does not want to hate anyone,” and also added that he was not trying to please anyone. “I dream only that the antagonism would stop, and harmony would be established between close peoples. And for this I am ready to give all my strength, – declared is he.
