Zakharova accused Kyiv of terror after the murder of a journalist with cluster bombs

Ukraine continues the policy of criminal terror, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, commenting on the death of a Russian journalist as a result of shelling by cluster munitions from the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Russian journalists from Izvestia and RIA Novosti came under fire from the Ukrainian military in the Zaporozhye region, four people were injured. Military commissar Rostislav Zhuravlev died from injuries as a result of a cluster submunition explosion, the press service of the Russian Defense Ministry said earlier today. Also wounded were the agency’s photojournalist Konstantin Mikhalchevsky and Izvestia employees – correspondent Roman Polshakov and cameraman of the TV channel Dmitry Shikov. According to the defense ministry, the journalists were preparing materials about the artillery attacks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with cluster munitions of settlements in the Zaporozhye region.

On July 7, the Pentagon announced a new $800 million military aid package for Ukraine that included 155mm artillery shells, including cluster munitions. The US defense department then admitted that the risks to the civilian population associated with the use of cluster munitions by the Ukrainian army did not exceed concerns about Russia’s victory in the conflict in Ukraine.
