Zakhar Prilepin is on the mend after the terrorist attack

The explosion in the Nizhny Novgorod region of a car driven by the writer, and since 2021, the co-chairman of the Just Russia party Zakhar Prilepin, became the third terrorist attack against the Russian patriotic movement, which arose in 2022. Before that, there was a publicist and a daughter conservative philosopher Daria Dugina (Moscow region), then military commander Vladlen Tatarsky (St. Petersburg). Prilepin, unlike them, is a public politician (there were rumors about his claims to leadership in the party, which he joined with the assistance of Staraya Ploshchad). And, most importantly, he survived.

Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko, three days after the terrorist attack, on May 9, informedthat Prilepin feels fine after the operation. The governor of the Nizhny Novgorod region, Gleb Nikitin, who visited the writer in the hospital, also confirmed that doctors predict an improvement in the patient’s condition. “According to the doctors, the recovery process is proceeding normally, everything necessary for treatment is available,” Nikitin wrote in his Telegram channel. Immediately after the explosion, the governor sent a helicopter for Prilepin to promptly deliver him to the hospital.

On the morning of May 6, in the Nizhny Novgorod region, Prilepin’s Audi Q7 car was blown up. As a result of the explosion, his assistant and colleague Alexander Shubin, a native of Lugansk, who had previously served in the LPR, died. According to Prilepin, both of his legs are broken “and there is something else.” Five minutes before the explosion, he dropped his daughter out of the car.

According to Prilepin, last year, sappers “removed land mines” twice near his house in Donetsk, and the last time he received a warning from the security services before leaving the LPR. The incident will not affect his decision to serve on a contract basis in the National Guard, the politician said.

On the same day, local police officers detained a suspect in the assassination attempt. It turned out to be the previously convicted 29-year-old Alexander Permyakov. Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev decided to reward the policemen who caught Permyakov.

According to the Investigative Committee of Russia, during the interrogation, the young man admitted that he acted on the instructions of the Ukrainian special services. And he set off the explosive device remotely.

Already on May 8, the Semenovsky District Court of the Nizhny Novgorod Region chose a preventive measure for Permyakov in the form of detention for two months. He was charged under Art. 205 of the Criminal Code (terrorist act) and Art. 222.1 of the Criminal Code (illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, transfer or carrying of explosives or explosive devices).

Russian politicians have come to the conclusion that the terrorist attacks against Dugina, Tatarsky and Prilepin are “links in the same chain” (as stated in the Communist Party faction). “Left without the conductors of their ideology (probably in Russia. – Vedomosti), Washington and Brussels are doing everything to crack down on the leaders of public opinion,” said United Russia State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin.

“The attack against Prilepin is another manifestation of that systematic approach to eliminating ideological opponents,” the Foreign Ministry responded. The chairman of A Just Russia and the leader of the party faction in the State Duma, Sergei Mironov, said that what happened on May 6 is a reason to start a counter-terrorist operation in Ukraine.

At the same time, the press service of A Just Russia reported that the party congress scheduled for May 20 would take place, because the co-chairman of the party had survived. The congress delegates will again nominate Prilepin for this post, Nikolai Novichkov, State Duma deputy from A Just Russia, told Vedomosti: “As for his personal participation in the event, this will be determined by his state of health after consultation with doctors. We look to the future with optimism.”
