The Legislative Assembly of the Sverdlovsk Region on Wednesday, February 22, approved in the first reading a bill according to which the elections to the Yekaterinburg City Duma will be held in autumn according to an updated scheme: the number of deputies elected on party lists will be reduced from 18 to 10, and in single-mandate districts it will increase from 18 to 25. According to the authors of the initiative, this will allow the Duma to work better with voters, and the population to choose candidates they trust. The opposition is confident that the amendments are adopted in the interests of United Russia (ER) and may lead to confrontation between the regional and city dumas.
