Xi Jinping called the condition for resolving the conflict in Ukraine

The settlement of the Ukrainian crisis is possible if the countries observe the concept of common security and continue the dialogue. Such a statement did Chinese President Xi Jinping in his article for Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

“We are convinced that a rational way out of the Ukrainian crisis and a path to lasting peace and universal security in the world will be found if everyone is guided by the concept of common, comprehensive, joint and sustainable security, continue dialogue and consultations in an equal, prudent and pragmatic manner,” he wrote.

Xi Jinping added that to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, it is also necessary to respect the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, respect the “reasonable security concerns of all states”, and ensure the stability of global production and supply chains.

The Chinese leader stressed that since the beginning of the escalation of the conflict last year, Beijing has taken an “objective and impartial position” and is making efforts to start peace negotiations. In his opinion, the PRC’s plan for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine, published at the end of February, “reflects to the maximum the unity of views of the world community.”

February 24 China introduced its plan to exit the Ukrainian conflict, which includes 12 points, including respect for the sovereignty of all countries, the cessation of hostilities, the start of peace negotiations, etc. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that China’s proposal is more like “expressing thoughts” than peace plan. He added that such an initiative is unrealizable without a clause on the withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine.

Xi Jinping’s article was published in Rossiyskaya Gazeta ahead of his visit to Moscow. The Chinese leader will visit Russia from March 20 to 22, during the trip he will hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This is Xi Jinping’s first trip abroad since being re-elected as Chinese president for a third term.
