The United States modified the HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) transferred to the Ukrainian side so that they could not be used for attacks against Russia, transmits newspaper The Wall Street Journal, citing officials in the White House and the Pentagon.
The interlocutors of the newspaper reported that the United States secretly modified the HIMARS installations, which were transferred to Ukraine, so that they could not be used to launch long-range missiles, including ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile System), the range of which reaches Russian territories.
The administration of US President Joe Biden felt that this precaution was necessary to reduce the risk of a wider clash with Moscow, the newspaper notes.
On December 4, the Armed Forces of Ukraine fired on Alchevsk from the HIMARS MLRS. This was announced by the mayor of the city Albert Apshev. He noted that no one was injured as a result of the attack, but the dormitory of the Industrial College of DonGTI was completely destroyed and the glazing of the college was damaged. On December 5, the Ukrainian military attacked the city again, firing six HIMARS missiles.
Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that Russia would consider strikes against the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR), as well as Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, as aggression against it.
