WSJ reported on the participation of Serbs in the escape of the son of ex-governor Uss

A Serbian “criminal group” took part in organizing the escape of the son of the former Krasnoyarsk governor Artem Uss from Italy. About it informed The Wall Street Journal, citing sources.

According to the publication, Uss managed to escape from the Italian police by changing one car, as well as crossing the border of several countries. It is assumed that Uss flew to Moscow from Serbia. At the same time, Russian intelligence agents did not take a direct part in organizing the escape, since the risks were too high, the WSJ interlocutor added.

Artem Uss was detained on October 17, 2022 at Milan Malpensa Airport at the request of the United States. He does not admit his guilt. In addition to him, Russians Yuri Orekhov, Svetlana Kuzurgasheva, Timofey Telegin and Sergei Tulyakov, as well as citizens of Venezuela – oil traders Juan Fernando Serrano Ponce and Juan Carlos Soto were also detained. The US Department of Justice accuses them of evading sanctions and money laundering.

On March 21, a court in Milan approved the extradition of detainee Uss to the United States, where he faces up to 30 years in prison in a money laundering and sanctions evasion case. On March 23, it became known that Uss escaped from house arrest.

After the detention in Milan, a criminal case against Uss was also initiated in Russia. He was accused of money laundering by an organized group on an especially large scale (clauses “a”, “b” of part 4 of article 174 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, under this article Uss faces up to 5 years in prison), after which the Meshchansky District Court of Moscow in absentia arrested him for two months. January 16 Uss asked for extradition to Russia. The Russian side sent a request to the Milan court along with the United States.
