WSJ: Israel plans hunt for Hamas leaders in southern Gaza

The Israel Defense Forces are considering the possibility of moving military operations to the south of the Gaza Strip, The Wall Street Journal newspaper reports, citing sources. This step is intended to help in the search for hostages and the destruction of Hamas leaders.

According to the publication, operating in the south of the region, the IDF will enter a more difficult phase of the conflict.

On the morning of October 7, Hamas fighters infiltrated the border areas of southern Israel, killing and taking hostage many civilians and military personnel, and launched more than 3,000 rockets into the country. The number of victims was at least 1,400 people, most of them civilians. Many of the dead were participants in the music festival. The attack was the largest mass murder of Jews since the Holocaust.

In response, Israel launched Operation Iron Swords against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
