Writers Guild of America announces strike is over

[ad_1]

The Writers Guild of America announced that it was ending its strike, which lasted nearly five months starting September 27, after reaching a tentative agreement with Hollywood studios. The announcement was made on the guild’s social media account X (formerly known as Twitter).

“The Guild has reached a preliminary agreement with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers of the United States. Today, our negotiating committee, the West Chapter board of governors and the East Chapter board voted unanimously in support of this agreement. The strike ends at midnight,” the statement said.

So far, the Screenwriters Guild has not disclosed the details of the agreement reached, although certain details have previously appeared in some American media, such as regulation of the use of artificial intelligence.

The Writers Guild strike began on May 2. On July 14, it was joined by the American Federation of Television and Film Actors, which still has not reached an agreement with the studios. Screenwriters demanded higher pay, changes to royalty payments, and restrictions on the use of artificial intelligence to replace their work.
