The Writers Guild of America (WGA) announced the end of a strike that lasted 148 days, the second longest for the guild. As the publication reported Hollywood Reporterthe strike will end at 00:01 on September 27 (10:01 Moscow time).
The decision was made based on the results of a vote by the WGA leadership. Screenwriters can write, sell scripts, and host work meetings. In this case, in the future, the preliminary agreement of the scriptwriters must be ratified. A meeting on this issue will be held from October 2 to October 9.
On September 24, representatives of the striking WGA met with AMPTP members on Sunday after another failed round of negotiations. As a result, the parties came to a preliminary agreement to end the strike.
Hollywood screenwriters have been on strike since May. Unions are demanding higher wages and guarantees that artificial intelligence will not be used to replace actors and screenwriters. The strike has already led to the Emmy Awards being postponed to January. Numerous films have been delayed, such as the Dune sequel.
