According to SecDev, these deposits contain 63% coal deposits, 42% metal deposits, 33% rare earth deposits, 20% natural gas deposits, 11% oil deposits. It is noted that the bulk of the country’s oil and gas reserves still remain under the control of Ukraine.
However, SecDev co-founder Roberta Magga emphasized that Russia’s control over part of the Ukrainian territories directly affects the energy security of Europe. “If the Europeans cannot quickly diversify their sources of oil and gas, they will remain heavily dependent on Russian hydrocarbons,” he added.
In March, the United States and Canada refused to import Russian oil. The EU countries came to the same decision almost three months later. In early June, as part of the sixth package of sanctions, Europe imposed an embargo on the import of Russian oil and petroleum products. At the end of June, it became known that the G7 countries were discussing the possibility of setting a ceiling price for Russian oil by introducing a ceiling on its insurance and transportation.
