The ranking of the country’s best wines, published in November by the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, included wine from the Bertinga estate, founded in 2014 by the co-owners of the Russian wine trading company Simple. Red wine Volta di Bertinga 2019 is included in the top 10 best Italian wines and received a rating of 99 out of 100 possible points. It is especially interesting that this is only the third year of harvest for this wine.

Volta di Bertinga is made from Merlot grown in the estate’s own vineyards located in Tuscany. Bertinga currently produces 80 thousand bottles per year with growth potential up to 200 thousand bottles. The current lineup includes five wines: two blends and three single-varietal wines made from two grape varieties: Sangiovese and Merlot. The winery is advised by the famous French oenologist Stephane Derenoncourt. Wines are exported to many countries around the world, in particular, in Russia Bertinga wines can be found in more than 500 restaurants in Moscow, St. Petersburg and other cities, as well as in Simple wine libraries.

Commenting on the success, the owner of Bertinga, as well as the founder and president of Simple, Maxim Kashirin says: “I would describe the success of the Volta di Bertinga 2019 wine as the quintessence of our own experience in the examination of the market in which we have been present for almost 30 years, as well as a combination of terroir and international knowledge team that we managed to assemble. We use the experience we gain while developing Bertinga in consulting Russian wineries.”

The inclusion of Russian wines in the top 10 best wines of Italy is unprecedented, given that there are thousands of wine producers in Italy.
