The Kremlin acknowledged the problems of Rusnano. According to presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov, the government is closely involved in this issue and is studying the situation. Previously, the corporation reported that without government support, it risks facing bankruptcy by the end of the year. As you know, Rusnano was headed by Anatoly Chubais for 12 years. Kommersant FM political commentator Dmitry Drize, meanwhile, believes that Chubais is not to blame for everything this time.
There is indeed a financial hole in Rusnano, and a rather big one – as of July, 95 billion rubles. It is no longer possible to cover this debt with your own funds and property. We can probably talk about the end of the beautiful story of a once ambitious project. Or at least it will have to be completely reformatted.
Who is to blame for all this, you ask. Chubais, who else? He led the state corporation for 12 years – and such a disappointing ending.
Maybe everything would have worked out fine, but he escaped. That’s what the president said. At the Eastern Economic Forum, Vladimir Putin recently told the whole country that there is a hole in Rusnano, and the leader in Israel is now writing articles. And then all sorts of epithets. Presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov agreed: yes, there is a hole, but the government is taking care of it and solving the problem.
As for Anatoly Borisovich, his future, this is still unclear. He continues to be abroad and makes no statements. Yes, he was subjected to public criticism – not entirely pleasant, with reference to his nationality, which may seem, by the way, a big overkill. What does nationality have to do with it? However, no other action is taken against him.
We, of course, will not investigate the activities of a state corporation, as well as undertake to defend the former Deputy Prime Minister of the government, as well as the head of the presidential administration Boris Yeltsin (it’s impossible to list all his posts). If anyone is interested in learning about the achievements of Rusnano, the TASS agency website has a beautiful section describing the company’s 13 largest projects.
But how did the enterprise eventually come to this point? There is reason to believe that this could have happened; it could have been foreseen. It was engaged in financing venture capital, that is, risky investments, and as a result, a lot of things were superimposed on this: loan rates were high, crises, as we know, happen periodically, projects were sometimes controversial, experimental – for Russia in many ways revolutionary and innovative.
Yes, and theoretically there could also be violations. We understand: it doesn’t happen that everything goes perfectly, especially in the venture business. In other words, yes, we took risks and got what we got, and this is largely natural.
But I would like to say this: the company, as you know, is state-owned. Where was the state looking? It was possible to stop all this in one day, so as not to squander state funds. But no, funding was regularly allocated, quite a lot, in the required amount. For 12 years everything seemed fine, but now is it Chubais’s fault again?
If you see that the manager is not coping, appoint another one. But no. And the second point is the future of such projects in modern Russia. It seems to look hazy. And Chubais, it seems, is no longer to blame. Although this issue is controversial, of course.
