State Duma deputy and chairman of the All-Russian Society for the Conservation of Nature Vyacheslav Fetisov called for making “green” finance “the property of the world and accessible to everyone”, saying that the world would not be able to cope with climate problems without Russia. He also called nuclear technology safe and waste-free and, remembering his hockey past, suggested playing hockey on a nuclear-powered icebreaker at the North Pole. Russian business (the conference was attended mainly by metallurgy, fertilizers and nuclear energy companies) called for the lifting of sanctions and restrictions on supply chains affecting the green and low-carbon sectors of the economy.

Andrey Melnichenko, Chairman of the RSPP Committee on Climate Policy and Sustainable Development, noticeably puzzled the guests of the official Russian event at the conference. He invited the guests of the conference to switch their attention from the reduction of anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions to the natural carbon cycle and ecosystems. “The Russian Federation is a young country, we are only 30 years old, our level of development corresponds to our age,” the businessman said. “We went to this game (Paris climate agreement.— “b”), although this did not fully correspond to our interests, but because they thought that it would not bring harm, ”he added. However, now, according to him, “our well-known military special operation has begun, and all sound agendas from Russia, such as climate control, will probably return after its completion.” It should be noted that the start of the Russian event was interrupted by an action by Ukrainian climate activists, and the Russian Federation received three Fossil of the Day anti-awards from a group of international climate observers: for the promotion of nuclear energy, for additional greenhouse gas emissions as a result of a military operation, for attempts to soften the wording on energy issues in the final decision of the conference.
