Salyukov Oleg Leonidovich was born on May 21, 1955 in Saratov. He graduated from the Ulyanovsk Guards Higher Tank Command School (1977), the Military Academy of the Armored Forces (1985), the Academy of the General Staff (1996).
Since 1977, he served in the Kiev, then in the Moscow military district, went from the commander of a tank platoon to the commander of a machine gun and artillery division. In October 1993, he participated in the suppression of an attempted coup in Moscow.
Since 1997 – in the Far Eastern Military District (FEB), commander of the 81st Guards Motorized Rifle Division (Bikin, Khabarovsk Territory). Since 2000 – Chief of Staff, then Commander of the 35th Combined Arms Army (Belogorsk, Amur Region). In 2003 he was appointed Deputy Commander of the Far Eastern Military District. Since April 2005 – Chief of Staff, since December 2008 – Commander of the Far Eastern Military District.
From December 10, 2010, he served as Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces. On May 2, 2014, he was appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Ground Forces. At the same time he is the head of the Moscow territorial garrison.
He commanded military parades on Red Square in Moscow on Victory Day on May 9 in 2014–2022.
