What is modern jewelry art? – Style

The new institution aims to present jewelry creativity as a special genre of contemporary art, which can also be worn. Therefore, all participants in the first program exhibition called We are art. Who is John Goldsmith are independent jewelers-artists: Dixon Yun (Hong Kong), Stephen Webster (UK), Ilgiz Fazulzyanov (Russia), Alexander Laut (USA), Epic Jewelery (Thailand), Richard Wu (China).

They all have their own independent businesses that successfully compete with large international groups and corporations. Their names and unique style are well known in the jewelry world, no less than famous brands like Cartier or Boucheron, which many years ago, before becoming a trademark, were also the names of designers and entrepreneurs. This is precisely what is emphasized in the title of the exhibition: John Smith is the traditional signature of an anonymous person, and goldsmith is a jeweler, a goldsmith. “Who is John Goldsmith? – the organizers of the exhibition ask themselves and call to remember the names of those who shape the modern jewelry art scene and the future of jewelry art. Ilgiz Fazulzyanov demonstrates incredible skill in working with various hot enamel techniques.

Dixon Yun reinterprets traditional Chinese crafts, such as wood lattice patterns and the art of paper cutting, into contemporary jewelry. For more than 25 years, Briton Stephen Webster has been creating doublet jewelry using his signature Crystal Haze technique, in which a colored stone is placed under a layer of faceted transparent quartz. In addition to the jewelers themselves, at the exhibition you can see works by artists of other art genres: Olga Tobreluts (Hungary), Ilya Fedotov-Fedorov (USA), Jean-Christophe Coue (USA), Irina Petrakova (Russia).

Exhibition We are art. Who is John Goldsmith is located at the historic 19th-century House on Sathorn in central Bangkok until November 28. It once housed the Soviet embassy in Thailand, and today it houses the first gallery of contemporary jewelry art, Eurus Gallery. However, I didn’t register forever. Next month, the Eurus pop-up project along with the exhibition will move to Istanbul.
