Weekly inflation in Russia from October 10 to 16 slowed to 0.15%

Weekly inflation in Russia from October 10 to October 16 was 0.15%; since the beginning of October, prices have increased by an average of 0.45%, according to Rosstat data.

In the week from October 3 to October 9, inflation accelerated to 0.24% compared to 0.21% the week before.

Since the beginning of the year, prices have increased by 5.07%, according to the Rosstat report.

In the reporting period, chicken eggs increased in price by 3%, pork and chicken meat – by 0.9%, dry milk formula for baby food – by 0.7%, and semi-smoked and cooked-smoked sausages and risk – by 0.6%. At the same time, in 16 regions, egg prices increased by 5.1-12%, and in several, on the contrary, they decreased. There is also an increase in prices for chicken in 71 regions ranging from 0.1% to 7.9%.

Prices for butter increased by 0.5%, and for lamb, frozen fish, cheeses, millet and black tea – by 0.4%. There is also an increase in prices of 0.3% for beef, margarine, wheat flour and bread and bakery products, for lunch in canteens and cafes. A slightly smaller increase – 0.2% – was demonstrated by prices for boiled sausage, pasteurized milk, sunflower oil, rye bread, cookies and table salt. The price of sausages and sausages, canned meat and canned fruit for baby food, as well as sterilized milk and sour cream, buckwheat, pasta and vodka increased by 0.1%.

On average, prices for fruits and vegetables increased by 0.4%. The largest increases were shown in prices for tomatoes (5.5%), bananas (1.3%) and onions (0.9%). The cost of a number of vegetables, on the contrary, decreased, including carrots and apples (1.8%), white cabbage (1.5%), potatoes (1.3%) and beets (0.8%).

As for medicines, Rosstat recorded an increase in the price of multivitamins by 1.1%, allochol by 0.7%, Corvalol and Metamizole sodium (domestic analgin) and other drugs by 0.5%. Also during the week, prices for sanitary pads (0.5%), diapers for newborns and toothpastes (0.4%), baby diapers, toilet soap and matches (0.1%) increased in price. Price reductions occurred for toothbrushes (0.3%), washing powders (0.2%), as well as toilet paper and pet food (0.1%).

Rosstat notes an increase in prices for televisions (by 1.2%), electric vacuum cleaners (1.1%), smartphones (0.7%) and a number of other non-food products. The cost of passenger cars of foreign brands in the reporting period increased by 0.1%. Last week, the price of gasoline and diesel fuel decreased by 0.3%.

At the same time, there is an increase in fares for travel in urban transport – on the metro by 6.7%, on the tram by 3.2%, on the trolleybus by 1% and on the city bus by 0.8%. At the same time, the cost of flights in economy class decreased by 4.2%. There is also a decrease in prices for accommodation in hostels, sanatoriums and hotels by 0.4-0.1%.

In September consumer prices grew up by 6% in annual terms after 5.15% in August. In monthly terms, inflation also accelerated, amounting to 0.87% compared to 0.28% a month earlier. Compared to December 2022, the increase was 4.6%.

On October 10, Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Alexey Zabotkin during a speech in the State Duma notedthat annual inflation in the Russian Federation as of October 2 was 5.9%. To return inflation to the target of 4% in 2024, the regulator does not rule out tightening monetary policy (MP) next year, he emphasized. Annual inflation in Russia will reach its peak in the spring and summer of next year, Zabotkin added.
