The US authorities are ready to negotiate with Moscow to replace the START Treaty, which expires in 2026, but there is no specific time frame for resuming dialogue in this area.
Speaking at the briefing, US State Department spokeswoman Bonnie Jenkins noted that the two major nuclear powers have made progress on the issue of arms control by reducing their nuclear arsenals.
“We hope to get a new agreement. The START agreements expire in 2026. We want to return to the negotiating table and start a dialogue with Russia. But Russia must act in good faith <…>we do not have specific dates for when this will happen,” Jenkins said. TASS quoted her as saying.

Recall that on January 27, 2021, the State Duma and the Federation Council ratified the agreement between Russia and the United States on the extension of START until February 5, 2026. On January 29, President Putin signed the law on the extension of the START, and on February 3 the agreement entered into force.
