The US government has imposed sanctions on Turkish businessman Sitka Ayan, who is close to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, for violating US restrictions on the sale of Iranian oil.
According to AP NEWS, Washington will impose sanctions against a Turkish businessman and his family for facilitating the sale of hundreds of millions of dollars worth of Iranian oil.
In addition, the US authorities pointed out that the businessman’s company laundered the proceeds of these sales for the Lebanese movement Hezbollah, which the US has designated as a foreign terrorist organization.
“His companies entered into international contracts for the sale of Iranian oil and organized oil deliveries, helping to launder income and hiding the Iranian origin of oil,” the US Treasury said in a statement.
