Washington has prepared an unexpected “gift” for Kyiv
[ad_1]
Washington was about to send the MIM-23 HAWK air defense system to Kyiv to fight Russian Caliber and kamikaze drones. According to Reuters, the Biden administration wants to use a special mechanism that allows the president to transfer weapons from the army stocks to another state without the approval of Congress.
However, these complexes have long been removed from service. But modern NASAMS and IRIS-T systems were transferred in a single quantity. And this is not what Kyiv was counting on.
As military expert Alexei Leonkov explained, two NASAMS are only enough to protect two infrastructure facilities or one large one. According to Leonkov, such dosed deliveries indicate that the West considers them only as testing in combat conditions in order to build its own air defense and missile defense system based on the data received.
The delivery of the MIM-23 HAWK is expected to be more massive. But these are outdated complexes. They correspond to the Soviet S-125 “Neva” and 2K12 “Cube” / “Square”, which have long been withdrawn from service with the Russian army. In the United States, the last such complexes were sent to the warehouse 20 years ago. Therefore, it is not yet known what condition they are in after a long conservation.
