Washington announced new sanctions against Russia

On the anniversary of the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, the United States, in coordination with the G7 countries, will introduce new sanctions against Russia, reported on the White House website.

Thus, the Ministry of Finance and the State Department will impose sanctions against another 200 individuals and companies, both Russian and located in third countries and providing military support to Russia. We are talking about those who allegedly help Moscow circumvent sanctions and supply sanctioned products to the Russian Federation. The restrictions will also be aimed at limiting Russia’s energy potential in the future, with minimal impact on global markets, in particular, they will affect the metallurgy and mining sectors of the Russian economy.

In addition, the US Department of Commerce will impose export restrictions on about 90 companies from Russia, China and other countries for evading sanctions and supporting the Russian defense sector. These companies will not be able to buy, among other things, semiconductors made in the USA or using American technologies. The agency will also, together with the G7 countries, agree on measures to limit the export of industrial equipment, luxury goods, etc.

Today, US President Joe Biden will also sign a decree to increase customs duties on certain imported Russian goods. Tariffs will be increased on more than 100 imported Russian metals, minerals and chemicals worth approximately $2.8 billion.

The White House also emphasized that the G7 countries would leave Russian foreign assets frozen until the end of the armed conflict in Ukraine. This will “guarantee that Russia will pay for the long-term reconstruction of Ukraine,” they noted.

Earlier today Pentagon announced about the allocation of a new $2 billion military aid package to Ukraine, designed to confirm Kyiv’s “unshakable support”.

On February 18, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that a Russian victory in the Ukrainian conflict “would be extremely” dangerous for NATO, so it was necessary continue support Ukraine. The secretary general also believes that the countries of the alliance should prepare for confrontation with Russia: modernize their own armies, strengthen relations between European countries and the United States, and generally strengthen the “resilience” of Western society.
