Vucic: Serbia will no longer inform about military plans

Serbia will no longer inform the world community about its plans in the defense sector, President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic said in an address to the nation, commenting on another aggravation of the situation in Kosovo.
“We will no longer inform anyone, except about raising or lowering our combat readiness, with the exception of our obligations to NATO, which we will always fully comply with UN Security Council Resolution 1244,” he said (quote on “Evening News”).
Serbia, Vučić added, will try to “keep peace” in northern Kosovo but will not allow Serbs to be evicted from the region.
On May 26, another aggravation took place in the north of Kosovo and Metohija. Protests erupted in several Serb-majority municipalities over the outcome of the last election, which was won by Albanians despite a record low turnout as the local population boycotted the elections.
Serbian protesters demanded the cancellation of the results and the resignation of the heads of municipalities. In response, the Kosovo police fired tear gas and stun grenades in some municipalities. On the same day, the Serbian army was put on full alert and advanced to the administrative border with Kosovo. The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the actions of the Kosovo authorities in connection with “new anti-Serb provocations.”
U.S. and EU officials have threatened “serious consequences” if Kosovo and Serbian authorities fail to take steps to ease tensions in the north of the partially recognized Serb-populated state, Vedomosti wrote.
