Voting in the presidential elections has ended in all Russian regions. At 21:00 Moscow time, polling stations closed in the Kaliningrad region (20:00 local time), in Kamchatka they closed at 12:00 Moscow time. The CEC will present the first results at 21:00 Moscow time.
The total in-person turnout (excluding online voting) as of 20:00 Moscow time, according to the Central Election Commission, was 73.33%. Leading regions by turnout: Chechnya (more than 96%), North Ossetia (more than 90%), Lugansk People’s Republic (87%), Kherson region (82%), Dagestan and Belgorod region – more than 81%. Turnout in remote voting (excluding Moscow) was 94%. As of 18:00 Moscow time on March 17, more than 249 thousand Russians voted abroad. The previous record for turnout was the presidential elections in 1996, when it was 69.81%.
The day before, March 16, CEC Chairman Ella Pamfilova spoke during a briefing about the absence of serious voting irregularities. At that time, attempts at arson or damage to boxes with ballots were recorded in 20 regions at 29 polling stations (mostly, they were filled with coloring liquid). Journalists reported the initiation of criminal cases – at least 15.
The elections took place over three days, from March 15 to 17. The CEC registered four presidential candidates: Nikolai Kharitonov (KPRF), Leonid Slutsky (LDPR), Vladislav Davankov (New People) and Vladimir Putin (self-nominated).
