Voting in the Moscow mayoral elections will last three days

Voting in the framework of the election of the mayor of Moscow will be held from 8 to 10 September. The resolution on this was adopted by the Moscow City Electoral Committee on June 8, transmits Interfax.
The chairman of the Moscow City Electoral Committee, Olga Kirillova, recalled that the practice of multi-day voting appeared during the coronavirus pandemic and quarantine. “As far as I know the information, Muscovites liked this practice <...> The number of people who had the opportunity to take part in the elections thus increased,” she said.
Kirillova added that it was decided to keep this format, since “Moscow is always introducing new technologies,” and the authorities are trying to attract “as many Muscovites as possible” to vote. She clarified that residents of the capital will be able to make their choice both remotely using electronic voting, and in person by filling out paper ballots.
The day before, June 7, the Moscow City Duma announced the day of the elections of the mayor of Moscow on September 10. On June 7, the election campaign started in the capital.
According to current legislation, the Moscow City Duma must schedule the election of the mayor of the capital no earlier than 100 days and no later than 90 days before the single voting day. This year, the single voting day will take place on September 10th.
The current mayor of Moscow is Sergei Sobyanin. He took up this position in October 2010 by presidential decree. Since then, Sobyanin has been re-elected twice. In 2013 and 2018 he participated in the elections as a self-nominated candidate. In 2018, Sobyanin won the election with 70% of the vote.
June 6 Vedomosti, citing sources wrotethat the Moscow conference of United Russia on June 9 will nominate Sobyanin as a candidate for the election of the head of the capital. Earlier today, Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov declaredthat the head of state Vladimir Putin highly appreciates the results of the work of the current mayor of Moscow.
