The head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, proposed sending increased bills for gas and electricity to Russia. So she answered to the criticism of the French MEP Manon Aubry during the debate at the plenary session of the European Parliament.

“The bills that you showed us, yes, as the French say, they are “unbearable. But you know what? Send these bills to Moscow, that’s where they belong, that’s where their origin is,” she said.

Aubrey criticized von der Leyen for the current energy crisis, which is affecting ordinary people in France and the rest of Europe the most. She also recalled the increased dividends of shareholders of the largest companies.

“From the very beginning of your mandate, you have extolled the blessings of the market. Today we see the results of this activity, illustrating the crisis in your system of thinking: the EU has sunk to the point of keeping its fingers crossed, fearing that blackouts this winter will not happen too often, and that people will still have money left to pay for electricity and heating, ” she concluded.

After the start of the special operation in Ukraine, Western states imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia. Restrictions also affected energy. Due to the reduction in gas supplies, European countries faced a shortage of energy carriers, as a result of which gas prices in Europe began to rise.

The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, acknowledged the fatigue of EU citizens from sanctions against Russia. He also noted that the Europeans are “very concerned about the upcoming winter and the consequences of the energy crisis.” However, according to Borrell, it is not the EU sanctions that are to blame for the crisis threatening Europe, but the actions of Russia, which “turns energy into a weapon.”

In this regard, the EU countries began to look for an alternative to Russian gas and resort to various ways to save energy. So, it was decided to reduce their consumption by 7-15%. In addition, Germany called on households and companies to reduce gas consumption by 20%.
