State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said that the United States, through its representative at the UN, asked Russian deputies not to pass a bill to revoke the ratification of the CTBT – the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty.
According to Volodin, “we have great consolidation” on this bill – 438 parliamentarians signed it.
“Our vote will be a response to their boorish attitude towards their duties,” Volodin said, “to maintain global security.”
He added that the United States had not ratified the treaty for 23 years, “and yesterday we woke up and remembered the State Duma deputies.” He also said that the States “have imagined themselves to be hegemons” and “today’s decision is a wake-up call for them.”
“And then the bell will ring for them,” the speaker concluded.
On Tuesday, October 17, the bill to revoke ratification passed its first reading. 412 deputies voted in favor, no one voted in favor, and there were no abstentions. Expected that second and third reading The bill will pass on October 19.
