Volodin: people like Putin would not allow a revolution and the collapse of the USSR

After the events of June 23-24, Russian President Vladimir Putin further strengthened his position in the country and in the world, he did everything to prevent bloodshed and unrest, said State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin. In his opinion, the revolution of 1917 and the collapse of the USSR would not have happened if people like Putin had been at the head of the state.

Volodin in his Telegram channel to solve analyze the events that took place in the country a week ago are an attempt at an armed rebellion by Wagner PMC. According to him, it is obvious that these days have entered the history of Russia as “days of unity and consolidation of society” around President Putin. The army and law enforcement agencies worked at the front and provided security in the rear, and there was “not a single example of someone supporting the rebellion.”

“Putin emerged from this difficult situation having further strengthened his position both in the country and in the world. He did everything to prevent bloodshed and turmoil <...> Analyzing the challenges that our country faced earlier, we can draw the following conclusion: if there had been people like Putin at the head of the state in 1917 and 1991, there would have been no revolution and the collapse of the USSR,” the State Duma speaker wrote.

On the night of June 24, an armed rebellion was attempted in Russia. Prigozhin’s military occupied Rostov, after which they announced the advance of troops towards Moscow. The day before these events, messages appeared on the Telegram channel of the press service of the founder of PMC Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, about a strike on the rear camps of the company. That same evening, the FSB opened a criminal case against Prigozhin under the article on armed rebellion.

On June 24, President Putin delivered a video message calling the rebellion an internal betrayal and a “stab in the back” to the country. In Moscow, the Moscow and Voronezh regions, a counter-terrorist operation (CTO) regime was introduced. “Wagner” managed to block Rostov-on-Don and take control of the city’s military facilities. On the evening of June 24, the Kremlin reported on the agreements reached with the founder of the PMC. President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko held talks with him, Prigozhin agreed to take measures to de-escalate the situation. He announced the return of fighters and equipment to field camps. It was decided to stop the criminal case against the businessman.
