Volodin instructed to work out mitigation of punishment for non-violent crimes

Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin instructed the State Duma committees on state building and legislation and on security and anti-corruption to work on the idea of ​​mitigating punishment for crimes committed without the use of violence or the threat of its use, reported press service lower house of parliament.

According to the press service, Vyacheslav Volodin recalled that the corresponding instruction was given by Russian President Vladimir Putin. The State Duma speaker said that parliamentary committees will have to analyze law enforcement practice together with the relevant departments, the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Supreme Court and propose changes to the legislation.

Vyacheslav Volodin added that the State Duma Committee on Economic Policy should be involved in this work, “since we are often talking about crimes under economic charges.” In addition, the initiative needs to be discussed with the business community, said the Chairman of the Duma.
