Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin instructed the Committee on Ecology, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection to work on excluding the rule on clear-cutting from the bill on the protection of Lake Baikal. This information was published on the parliament website.
Volodin emphasized that the rule on clear cutting raises concerns and requires adjustments. He expressed the need to work on this issue to find a more suitable solution.
The head of the State Duma believes that his colleagues need to finalize the bill for the second reading in order to find solutions that will prevent hasty actions.
Volodin also recalled that the law should contribute to the development of the region and be aimed at protecting Lake Baikal and its natural territory.
Earlier, ecologist and head of the “Save Baikal” project Maxim Tokarev noted the deterioration of the environmental situation on Lake Baikal. He emphasized that to solve these problems, it is necessary to improve the tourism infrastructure.
