Vladimir Putin: The US and the EU have their say “if they want to give, if they want, they take away”

Russian President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi, called the US and the EU “masters of their word”, disposing of it at their own discretion.

During a conversation between the two presidents on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Samarkand, Raisi accused Washington and the EU of failing to deliver on their promises.

“Masters of your word. They want – they give, they want – they take away, ”Putin answered (quote according to TASS).

Putin also toldthat last year the trade turnover between Russia and Iran increased by 81%, and for the first five months of this year – by another 30%. The work on an agreement between the countries on strategic partnership is also in the final stage.

Earlier today Iran signed a memorandum of commitment in the SCO, after which the country can join the organization.

The first face-to-face meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of State in three years is being held on September 15-16 in Samarkand. It is expected that several issues will be discussed at it, including those related to strengthening the organization’s potential in the field of ensuring security and stability, strengthening economic ties, as well as issues of developing transport interconnection.

On the sidelines of the event, Putin is expected to will meet also with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and heads of other states.
