Vladimir Putin ends series of meetings with governors running for election

The President is completing a series of meetings with the heads of the regions, who are now in the election campaign. Of the 14 governors and acting heads of the constituent entities of the Russian Federation who will go to direct elections, the president has not yet met with only two – the acting head of the Ryazan region Pavel Malkov and the acting governor of the Saratov region Roman Busargin, Vedomosti calculated. In total, eight interim governors who were appointed to these positions in October 2021 and May 2022, as well as six governors who are running for re-election, go to the polls this year.
On August 22, the President met with Acting Head of the Tomsk Region Vladimir Mazur. Putin stressed in the conversation that the problem of HIV needs to be addressed in the region. At a previous meeting on August 17 with Acting Governor of the Vladimir Region Alexander Avdeev, the president drew attention to the fact that there are many people diagnosed with alcoholism in the region – 2.6 times higher than in Russia as a whole. In August, the president also met with other acting heads of regions – Maxim Egorov (Tambov region), Yuri Zaitsev (Mari El), Alexander Sokolov (Kirov region), Mikhail Evraev (Yaroslavl region).
