Venezuela and Guyana decided not to use force in their conflict

As a result of negotiations related to the disputed state of Essequibo, Venezuela and Guyana have reached an agreement on the non-use of force to resolve the conflict, as stated in a joint statement of the parties published on the social network X (formerly Twitter) by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. A meeting took place between the President of Venezuela and the President of Guyana, Muhammad Irfaan Ali.
The statement said: “Guyana and Venezuela, directly or indirectly, will not threaten or use force against each other under any circumstances, including those resulting from any existing differences between the two States.”
The parties also agreed to resolve controversial issues in accordance with international law through dialogue and refrain from escalating the conflict. They reaffirmed their commitment to “ensuring good neighborliness, peaceful coexistence and unity of Latin America and the Caribbean.”
